Threadless.com

So the website I explored was threadless.com. They are a t-shirt company. Users submit designs, which are voted on, and some are actually made into t-shirts. It's quite fun to vote on designs and it's especially exciting to see a design you like made into a shirt. I have been a big fan for a while, everyone needs to go and buy a shirt from Threadless! Though, I can't really see any application to libraries. :)

Zoho Writer

It was quite cool. I think it would be handy to use in tandem with a blog, since there are more formatting options and it is a bit more user friendly as far as adding pictures, etc. than the actual blog websites are.

However, I don't see web-based applications replacing software such as Microsoft Word anytime soon. People on slower internet connections would be at a major disadvantage. Also it seems that is would be easier to lose a document that you are working on due to the browser crashing (as mine often does) or other annoying glitches.

Wikis again!

Adding to the wiki page was totally easy. A child could do it. :) I also learned about some other books I might like to read on the favorite books page. Hooray!

Wikis

I myself use Wikipedia a lot, so I was familiar with the concept. I thought that the SJCPL's subject guides wiki was rather cool and convenient for users. The "from our new shelf" feature, I was especially impressed with. Wikis would be very applicable for libraries as an easy way for patrons to find information on specific topics as well as learning about programs, etc. that the library may be hosting.

Library 2.0

This seems like a change that will soon be inevitable for all libraries, except for, perhaps, the Amish. With online shopping, movie rentals, and everything else you could imagine, it seems that an online library would be a logical step to keep up. However, at the time being, I still feel that having an actual, physical library, with actual physical books is something that will be desired by many. I don't know about everyone else, but I know that I like to be able to hold a book in my hand, mark things, and read it over and over until it's all floppy and broken in. You can't do that with an electronic book (not yet, anyway. The humanity of a library is something that I feel would be lost with Library 2.0.

Technorati

I enjoy Technorati. Despite the fact that Internet Explorer is made of evil and won't load the page half the time, it seems to be quite a handy tool. I hadn't heard of the most of things that were popular searches and it made me feel out of the loop, so I suppose I was a bit surprised by my ignorance of that. I can see how this would be a handy way to find new information and link to other people.

del.ico.us

I could see how this would be rather useful if you are doing a lot of research, or if you have tons and tons of websites that you frequent, while using a computer other than your own, but I do not fall into either category, and thus cannot see that it would be a terribly useful thing to me. The websites that I go to on a daily basis are few, and I have the addresses memorized. It's definitely a good tool, just not for me.

Rollyo

I'm not too impressed with Rollyo. Maybe if I used it more, I would be more excited about it. As it is, I can usually find what I'm looking for just by using Google, or by going directly to the website I'm interested in.

Library thing

I am terribly excited by librarything.com. I love things being in nice organized lists, so this is right up my alley. I want to go home and add all my books right now. Here's my account.

RSS feed searches

Wow, a lot more websites than I ever imagined have RSS feeds.
Topix.net was my favorite place. It had news both locally and all over over the world, right on one page. Very easy to navigate.
I thought syndic8.com was kind of ugly and not as easy to use.

RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds are rather handy. I had already used them on my other blog, at livejournal.com, so I was pretty familiar with them already. It's nice to be able to view all (or most, anyway) of my websites on one page. It saves a lot of time. Thumbs up from me.

Anything technology related!

I want a new digital camera. The one I have now (the little one I carried in my purse) has died and gone to camera heaven. I know just the one I want and it is so cool. Waterproof, people! Waterproof!! I could throw this baby in a pool and still be good to go. I am working on saving money for it now.

I need to find some more people doing this so that I can comment on someone else's post.

My librarian trading card.

My librarian trading card, created with Flickr toys! I also liked the
Flickr Color Pickr. I could probably spend all day playing with that.

Angie's a super librarian. Here, she is deep in thought as she shifts the non-fiction section. Way to go, Angie.

Hooray!

I've made myself a nice little blog for Learning 2.0, in the hopes of winning a laptop!

In regards to the 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners, they are all easy for me because I am just that awesome. :P Actually, the easiest one for me was to accept responsibility for my learning, and to use technology to my advantage, since I am computer fiend.

The hardest ones for me are to view obstacles as challenges, since I tend to get discouraged very easily and to teach others. I'm a horrible teacher, I get frustrated with my pupils very quickly.

Here's to having fun with this thing and hopefully having a new lpatop at the end of it! :D
